O Mundo Misterioso
Inventado por Lorenzato

São Paulo demorou muito a saber de Lorenzato, fato que esta exposição contribui para remediar. Durante sua vida, concomitante ao século passado (1900-1995), foi, pelo menos a partir da década de 1950, quando sua produção embalou, quase um orgulhoso segredo cultivado por seus admirados conterrâneos de Belo Horizonte, a cidade onde nasceu e passou a maior parte de sua vida. Houve um largo intervalo, entre 1920 e 1948, cujo ponto de partida foi a viagem para a Itália com seus pais. Dentro desse intervalo houve outro: uma viagem de dois anos pela Europa, da Itália à Turquia, em companhia de um artista holandês, Cornelius Keesman, viagem intitulada de estudos, apenas, como explicaria, para obter livre trânsito pelos países.

Jamais se saberá o real propósito dessa viagem, posto que ele nunca contou direito (de Bach a Burroughs, de Brancusi a Kerouac, a história da arte está permeada de peregrinações iniciáticas). Seja qual tenha sido o motivo, viu muita arte em museus, em igrejas e pelas ruas, o que se depreende examinando sua extensa e complexa obra. É certo que saiu daqui senhor do seu ofício de pintor de paredes e, quando começou a pintar, já na Itália, as duas práticas entraram em sintonia, mesmo após sua aposentadoria da construção civil.

A poética de Lorenzato, como é característico entre os grandes artistas, é singular. Não se filia a nenhum movimento, a nenhuma igrejinha, embora dialogue à distância com muita gente. Mas tente enumerar os artistas que inventaram mundos. São poucos. E o de Lorenzato é muito particular. Percorra as muitas paisagens trazidas para esta exposição. Perceba os céus, especialmente as nuvens, ah, as nuvens de Lorenzato, densas, variando em formatos estranhos.

E o que dizer desses troncos de árvores, bambuzais, renques verdes, entrelaçamentos súbitos, urdiduras complexas, que nada têm a ver com a observação da natureza? Há também as pessoas, os boizinhos, todos de caras indefiníveis, coisas que não se dão a ver; e o jogo das cores fazendo nosso olhar brincar de amarelinha, cores, como tudo o mais, baças, sem brilho, obrigando-nos a chegar perto, atraindo nossa atenção para a superfície espessa, convidando-nos a habitá-las.
